Beyond the Basics

This is a comprehensive wine class series designed for beginning wine professionals or wine lovers who want to expand their knowledge of the world of wine. Students will learn how to taste wines from classic wine producing regions, 4 to 6 wines will be tasted at each class. The participants will gain knowledge of the history, geography, production methods and classifications of some of the world’s finest wines. Each class will include a Power Point presentation as well as class handouts and challenging quizzes. The class series will finish with a final exam and a certification of completion of the course.

  • 9/28 Exploring wine: Understanding wine components, Viticulture, wine making, wine tasting

  • 10/26 France: Classifications, Bordeaux, Champagne and sparkling wine

  • 11/16 France: Burgundy, Beaujolais, Loire, Alsace, Rhone

  • 3/22 Italy: Tuscany, Piedmont, Veneto and the rest of Italy

  • 4/26 Germany, Austria, Greece and Hungary

  • 5/24  Spain, Portugal and fortified wine

  • 6/28 The United States; Proper wine service

  • 7/26 The Southern Hemisphere: Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa. Final Exam.
