A WINEMAKING FAMILY’S SEARCH FOR QUALITY LEADS TO MENDOZA

Established in 1998, Alta Vista is a French family-owned winery that focuses on the production of high altitude, site-specific wines. The family’s winemaking knowledge and passion, together with its former ownership of the famous champagne house Piper-Heidsieck, provided the impetus to create a harmonious French-Argentine fusion. Years of research brought them to the top growing regions of Mendoza, an area best suited for the creation of terroir-expression wines.

Following a pursuit of quality and innovation, and a mission as Terroir Expression Winemakers®, Alta Vista became the first Argentinean winery to produce single vineyard Malbec wines, each representing the unique characteristics of their high elevation, estate vineyards. The estate’s choice vineyards and terroirs in Mendoza and Salta provinces best highlight the characteristics of Argentina’s typical varieties Malbec and Torrontés, as well as the International varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

MENDOZA’S FINE TERROIR

Alta Vista is based in Mendoza, Argentina’s main wine growing region and home to many historic wineries. In recent years, Mendoza has gained international recognition for its high quality, high value wines. Mendoza’s high elevations (3,280 ft.), semi-arid, near Continental climate, intense sunlight, and winds from the Andes, together form optimal conditions for wine growing. Mendoza’s soil (mostly sand, gravel, limestone and clay) is an ideal mix for wine growing, and the high percentage of sand stops the spread of phylloxera. As a result, Alta Vista’s ungrafted old vines with original rootstocks produce superior fruit.

ALTA VISTA: A PIONEER WINERY WITH TERROIR MANAGEMENT®

Alta Vista is known as Terroir Expression Winemakers®. Using its Terroir Management® system, Alta Vista adapts viticulture to the characteristics of each vineyard and terroir. Aerial infra-red photos are converted into custom maps of each vineyard. Using this information, winegrowing methods and harvest dates are adapted to each separate plot to fully express its site specific characteristics.

ALTA VISTA’S RANGE OF FINE WINES

The Alta Vista range has three lines: Classic wines are made for everyday consumption, and their fruit-forward character is a perfect introduction to the best of Argentina. Premium wines are made from estate-grown fruit and benefit from vineyard management that maximizes the expression of each variety.  Luxury wines represent a true benchmark, capturing the distinct characters of each terroir from estate vineyards in the finest locations. All estate vineyards are distinguished by their high elevation.
