The perfect Tuesday night wine isn’t expensive, it has to go with a quick easy meal, or leftovers, and it has to taste amazing, because it’s Tuesday night and you shouldn’t compromise…
Michele Chiarlo Barbera D’Asti Superiore Piedmont, Italy
Fall is here, the temperature will be changing soon, leaves will be falling, there’s no better time for hearty comfort food and rich red wines. A nice red sauce pasta, heavy on the mushrooms sounds great for a Tuesday night. Today’s featured wine is a Barbera, a wonderful red grape from the Piedmont region of Italy. It’s fruity yet spicy, rich yet balanced, with nice acid and a slight earthy component to help pair with the mushrooms. Nebbiolo is the grape from Piedmont that gets the scores and the notoriety but Barbera is the everyday grape of the region. Michele Chiarlo is the winemaker for today’s wine, he makes beautiful wines from rich reds, complex whites and a fantastic Moscato. Make your best red sauce, or open the jar, cook the pasta and open this wine. Salute!!
