wine-910-2The temperatures are rising, the sun screen is ready and the patio furniture has been cleaned off and put out on the deck.  It’s Spring!  Soon it will be Summer.  My wine friends are all abuzz about Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc.  “They’re warm weather wines!” or “They are perfect for the patio!” True?  Absolutely! …but that doesn’t mean we have to pack up our zins and cabs.

Don’t forget, Spring and Summer are barbecue seasons and these bad boys of the red wine family are a perfect match for that juicy grilled steak or those tangy ribs. Red wines will go great with your burgers.  Try them with brats or grilled veggies! There is nothing wrong with putting the slightest of chills on your red wines for the summer months, especially if you are spending time outside.  Keep them at about 65° and keep them out of the sun and heat.  I would even go as far as to say keep your red wines in a cooler with a small bag of ice.   The idea isn’t to submerge them in the ice, just keep them from getting warm.  You’ll be amazed at how refreshing a glass of red wine can be!

So fire up that grill, pop open that patio umbrella, shake out that hammock!  Enjoy your warm weather fare with a delicious glass of red wine! Here are a few suggestions…

Grilled Portabella Mushrooms:  Nipozzano Chianti Riserva

Salmon:  Hahn Pinot Noir
